Small Town Fun

{Small Town Fun}

So, the kids and I learned a few new things on our trip to Nebraska! First we learned about smashing pennies on a railroad track, I had never done this before and it was pretty fun! No need to worry, I looked online first to make sure that there was no threat to the train from our pennies; there wasn’t.

We put out pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters; 11 coins total.

We waited for the train, which didn’t take long since they were coming every 10 minutes. (If you read my original vacation post you will know how exciting that was, since our hotel room was a few hundred feet from the track. The hotel is also at a “honking point” for the trains J )

It came, it crushed and it left

We had the hardest time finding all of the coins! Of the 11 we laid out we only found 2 pennies and a quarter. We had a great time and the kids thought it was the best thing ever, totally worth the lost money!

It looks like you guys had a ton of fun! My son and I sat on the floor last night for over an hour stacking coins on different objects, trying to get them to balance without falling over. It's all about the simple things in life!

Just wanted to say hello!

We live pretty close to train tracks. My little guy always listens for the trains and comes running, yelling, "Train! Train!" when they come by. We have to pick him up and let him look out the window - about 10 times a day! We've never done the coins on the tracks thing - YET!

Following via the Alexa Hop - thanks for stopping by my blog!

We used to do that up in NJ :) We would walk up across the tracks (it was the short cut to swim team practice) and occasionally leave pennies. Then we'd come back the next day to see if we could fine them :)

We have done this tons! Except we were always told it was illegal... for train safety and defacing money. It always stopped me but not everyone else.. lol

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Well an officer did show up while we were doing it but he just wanted to tell us to be careful and that the train company "doesn't like people on the tracks" he didn't care about the train or the money. I was relieved, when he pulled up I thought we were in big trouble! lol.

It's so funny to find this today! My 4 year old is obsessed with trains and I was just telling him about how when I was young we used to put pennies on the track and wait for a train to come and smoosh them. He lectured me about train safety and how that could cause a derailment! LOL

Lori, it's funny because I had heard that somewhere too and so I Googled it a bunch before we did it. Obviously I didn't want a train derailing because of a stupid penny!
