Vacation

{Vacation?}

Moose, Tater, Louie, my mom, my step-dad and I all came to Nebraska to celebrate my step-dad’s mom’s 88th birthday! We are staying in the smallest town and so far it has been hilarious!

We had to check into the hotel at the gas station next door and there is a very active train track a couple hundred feet from our room. I am not complaining though, a trip out of town is always fun! Let's see if I still feel that way tomorrow...

30 Day Picture Challenge- Day 19

{Day 19- 30 Day Picture Challenge}

A picture and a letter. I don't know exactly what this means but I saw another blogger (can't remember which one) who wrote a letter to their younger self, I loved that idea so here it is-

Dear 15 year old me,
You are going to meet a boy soon, ignore him, no matter how great you think he is; he isn’t. You will spend the next 6 years trying to escape his abusive hand. Date one of the boys you already know, there are some good ones.
Always,
Me
P.S. Quit thinking you are fat, one day you will dream of being the size you are now.

PAUL- Review

{PAUL- Review}
Rated R

{About}
This movie is about two comic book loving friends, Graeme and Clive on a cross country road trip, touring all of America’s UFO hot spots. On their trip they stumble upon a crazy alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogan). Paul is just an alien who dreams of going back to his home planet and he is trying to find a way to get there without the government capturing him. He needs help and finds it in this pair. They become fugitives of the law and kidnappers; they find themselves running from an FBI agent (Jason Bateman) and he is closing in quickly.

{My Opinion}
I have never been in a theater where so many people were laughing out loud! I was worried that most of the good parts of this movie may have been in the previews but that wasn’t true at all! Paul is a funny, over sexualized but sweet little alien; easy to love and laugh at. This was a really funny movie in total but was also a little tiny bit touching. I think that if you enjoy Seth Rogen’s other movies (Pineapple Express, Superbad, Knocked Up, Zac and Miri Make a Porno) you would enjoy this one! It is by the same guy who did Superbad, which I loved!

This is not a movie for kids, the movie is rated R and there are plenty of reasons for that. It may look like a kids movie because of the computer animation but it isn't.

The opinions in this review are my own and I was not compensated in anyway for this review.

A picture of your biggest insecurity
Well, this certainly is uncomfortable! My biggest insecurity is my friendships, I am always worried about people being mad at me or not liking me. It seems like such a little kid kind of insecurity but it is one that I just can’t seem to overcome. What is yours?

Oreo Cupcake Surprise

{Oreo Surprise Cupcakes}
I thought I would try to put some different fillings inside of a chocolate cupcake and see what happens, so first came an Oreo cookie and it was delicious!

  • Prepare your cupcake pan with liners and preheat your oven according to your recipe
  • Fill your liner about a 1/3 of the way
  • Put a whole Oreo cookie on top of the batter in the liner

  • Fill the liner according to the directions on your cake mix

  • Follow the baking directions of your choice cake mix, cool and frost as you would normally.

I have a recipe for cookies and cream frosting if you click here, I bet it would be a perfect addition to these cupcakes!

Tell All Tuesday

{Tuesday Tell All}

How is the world now different from what it was like when you were a child?

I would say that the world is different today because of the internet. The children and adults don't have the manners that I saw when I was a child and it disappoints me. People are too busy talking on their cell phones or e-mailing to even play with their own children.

I would say that it is better now than when I was younger because it is easier to stay in contact and to get into contact with old friends. I am extremely thankful for that!

The Bachelor (March 14th 2011) Finale

{The Bachelor (March 14th, 2011) Finale Spoiler}
So this week was the final show of the season! Time for these two ladies to meet with Brad's family. I will keep this post as short as possible because all that matters is the end, who cares how they got there? The dates looked pretty good on the previews, so maybe you should read on and see if they really were...

{Chantal}
First was Chantal she met his family and they seemed to really like her. She told Brad's brothers and his mom that she is ready to be married to him and that she would marry him the second he purposes.

{Emily}
Next was Emily, of course the family really seemed to like her too! They noticed right off that Chantal and Emily have very opposite personalities. One of the brother's asked at dinner if Ricki's dad would be ok with Ricki moving out of state, which forced Emily into telling that whole story... not really great dinner conversation but it was nice to see her open up to his family. Brad's brother's took him aside and asked if he was ready to be a father and he gushed about how much he likes Ricki and is excited about possibly being her step-father.

After the ladies left Brad's family talked to him about the ladies and their opinions of them. The sister's-in-law said that they would connect better with Emily because she is a mom. Brad's mom love Emily and couldn't stop talking about how great she was. They didn't really mention Chantal too much, they made it very clear that they thought Emily was the girl for him. Brad had two more dates left, one with each girl.

{Dates}
The first date was with Chantal and he took her to go swimming with the sharks! Later in the night they had a heart to heart and she gave him a map of their dates and also a love letter.

Next was Emily (and the final date of the season!) and in true bachelor style he took her on a helicopter ride. Later that night Brad went to reassure Emily about his feelings for her in a hotel room. Brad told her that he had been thinking about being a family with her and Ricki, he said he wants the chance to really be Ricki's father and he wants a chance to love them. He said he doesn't want to be Ricki's step-father, he wants to be her real father... Emily asked him if he knows what that means; this is where things went downhill. She just kept telling him that "it's not always fun" and he seemed offended that she was acting like he didn't know that. He started to get mad and told her that he was getting upset but she kept going, it was obvious that she was very insecure and just trying to reassure herself.

The same thing that happened at her house where Brad started getting hot and fidgety started to happen. He asked her if she was truly ready to let someone in and she said she was. He said he is walking away from this date completely defeated and questioning everything.

{The Final Rose}
Chantal was the first to arrive, we all know what that means right? He told her that he could always be himself around her and he loved that about her. He told her that she was someone that he had looked for for a long time, she had looked really nervous until he said that and then I think she relaxed. In the next breath he told her that he had strong feelings for someone else.

Next came Emily, he almost started crying after a short speech and then he told her "You're the one, you're the one Em" he told her that he loved her and she told him she loves him too. He got down on one knee and said "Emily, please make me happier than I have ever been in my life, marry me?" and she said she would love to. He told her that he has wanted to tell her he loved her for so long; he said it over and over to her.

Yay! This is the first year ever that "my pick" was the one that got picked! lol.

Cheese and Peas Tortellini

{Meatless Monday- Cheese and Peas Tortellini}
I am a huge fan of everything in this recipe, so the combination makes me happy! It is a super simple recipe that takes about 15 minutes.

{Ingredients}
16 oz of cheese tortellini, thawed
2 Tablespoons of butter or margarine
3 Tablespoons of flour
1 clove of minced garlic
1 Cup of heavy cream (you can substitute with regular milk for a thinner sauce)
1 Cup of milk
Salt and pepper
1 15oz can of Sweet Peas (or a smaller can if your store carries them, you need 1 Cup)
1/2 Cup of grated Parmesan cheese

{Directions}
  • In a large sauce pan, prepare your tortellini according to the directions on the package
  • Meanwhile, in a medium sauce pan or deep skillet combine the butter and flour over medium heat; whisk together (Congratulations, you just made something called a roux!)

  • Add garlic
  • Slowly whisk in the heavy cream and milk

  • Add ¼ of a cup of Parmesan cheese to the sauce

  • Bring the sauce almost to a boil to allow it to thicken
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Add the pasta and toss to coat
  • Add the 1 cup of peas, or more, whatever you prefer (I like a ton of peas!)

Serve and garnish with parmesan, add garlic bread for an amazing dinner!

The Melting Pot

{First Fondue Ever}

For our 7 year anniversary we went to a restaurant called The Melting Pot, it’s a hip little fondue place. I have heard about this place for years and have never tried it but this week was restaurant week so instead of being well over $100 for a meal at The Melting Pot it was only $52.80 for two people!

The meal included a starter course which was a cheddar cheese fondue; consisting of Aged, medium-sharp Cheddar and Emmenthalar Swiss cheeses, lager beer, garlic and seasoning. They mix all of the ingredients in front of you and allow it to melt. They gave us a bowl of bread, some veggies and apples to dip. I must say, it was very good!

The second course was a salad, which I didn’t bother with.

Third course was the dinner course and we had the Court Bouillon which is homemade, seasoned vegetable broth. They give you several meats that you set in the broth and allow to cook; we got chicken, two kinds of steak and Mahi, Mahi. You stab whatever you want and throw it in the broth for a few minutes, take it out, dip it in one of their signature sauces and enjoy.

Dessert; I don’t know why I didn’t go straight to talking about dessert! It was fantastic! We got the special of the month which was White chocolate crème Brule fondue. White chocolate base with caramelized sugar sprayed with caramel liquor and then flambéed right at your table. They give you some amazing things to dip in it too; marshmallows, strawberries, bananas, rice crispy treats, cheesecake, pound cake and brownies.

It was a really great night; I don’t know about the outrageous prices for the food there but for the restaurant week price it was good. I would say that the meal itself was average but the dessert was awesome! In the future we will go just for dessert and not waste money on the whole meal. The actual dipping part of everything was really fun, it was nice to sit and chat and cook a little, I enjoyed the atmosphere.
Have you had fondue?

How about a fondue party, have you had one or been to one? Was it great? I want to have one now!

30 Day Picture Challenge- Day 14

Something you could never imagine your life without; again trying not to go with the obvious.
I would choose my car, I don’t know what I would do without a vehicle to get where I need to go; especially with kids!
