Arthur- Review

{Arthur}
Rated- PG-13

{About}
Arthur (Russell Brand) is a loveable guy who lives off of his mother’s unlimited fortune; he lives with his nanny and best friend Hobson (Helen Miren). Arthur has a problem with alcohol and needs someone around to control him; enter Susan Johnson (Jennifer Garner) an important executive and the woman who Arthur’s mother says he must marry if he intends to inherit her fortune. All of that would be ok if he hadn’t just met and fallen for Naomi (Greta Gerwig) a down to earth tour guide.

Arthur is going to take the world on, he will do whatever it takes to be with Naomi and not Susan; including abandoning his fortune and try to make a living on his own.

 {My Opinion}
 This movie was very funny! I have never seen the original so I do not know how they compare to each other. Russell Brand (I am obsessed with him!) and Helen Miren have amazing chemistry and the comedy plays well between them. I did enjoy this movie but I would say wait to see it on DVD.

Born to be Wild- Review

{Born to be Wild- Review}
{About}
 Born to be wild documents the love of two very special people and the orphaned animals that they care for, one cares for orangutans and one cares for elephants. You follow primatologist Dr. Birute Galdikas and elephant authority Dame Daphne Sheldrick as they rescue these orphaned animals from the wild, rehabilitate, raise and then release them.

{My Opinion}
Shot in IMAX 3D, this film is amazingly beautiful and makes you feel like you are actually there. The story is so heartwarming and wonderful, it introduces you to the lives of elephants and orangutans that you have probably never seen before; I know I never had. I couldn’t stop smiling during this movie, even when I had tears running down my face I was smiling. I would recommend this movie, I thought it was great. The kids seemed to enjoy it too, they thought the animals were really funny and they paid attention the whole time without a fuss.

Eardoc Review

{Ear Infections Meet Your Match- Eardoc!}

I have been on the lookout for a good ear infection cure since last year when Moose got his first one and I stumbled upon the Eardoc. I found that it was a non-invasive alternative to treating lots of ear problems!

The Eardoc can be used for-
  • Ear Infections or ear pain in general
  • Alternative to ear tubes
  • Safe for all ages, children and adults
  • Removing water from your ears after swimming (I am so excited to try this after scuba diving! I hate that feeling of having water in your ear canals!)
The Eardoc has been clinically reviewed and was found to be safe and was also found to be effective at loosening blockages in the ear tubes.

I had read somewhere that the Eardoc may help Vertigo and this was another main reason that I knew I just had to get one! I get Vertigo pretty often and it is highly unpleasant, I hate it, my head is spinning and every time I move it feels like the room spins around me; the worst part is that the only known cure is moving your head around more (which if you have ever had it, you know that is the LAST thing you want to do!) I thought that this would be great if it worked. One day I felt the Vertigo coming on, if you have it then you know what I mean, so I tried the Eardoc and it felt so good! It really felt like a bit of relief and you know what? The Vertigo didn’t ever come on fully, I don’t know if the Eardoc was the reason for that but I like to think it was! I will certainly be using it from now on.

I have to say that all 3 kids (Moose, Tater and Louie) all loved it! I had to take it away from them to keep them from killing the batteries! They weren’t scared of it and they certainly didn’t think it hurt; they were giggling and holding it behind their ears, so cute. Follow Eardoc on Twitter @eardoc and visit their Facebook page to share your reasons for needing the Eardoc!

Superior Doughnuts- Denver

{Superior Doughnuts- Denver}
This is a sweet story by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts (August Osage County) about a little family owned doughnut shop and Arthur the guy who runs the place. The doughnut shop is failing when Arthur hires a young man who has plenty of ideas on how to revamp the business and gain new customers.

Superior Doughnuts is playing at the Space Theater, this theater in the heart of the Performing arts complex is a beautiful one! It is unique in the way that there are seats in a full circle around the stage and no matter where you sit you have a great view of the action!

{My Opinion}
We loved this show! It was great! Judging by the name and the description I was not sure how it was going to be but I just crossed my fingers that it wouldn’t be awful and showed up. After a few minutes I knew that this was going to be a really good one. I felt drawn in, the characters were really funny and fun to watch, the acting was great and you truly felt like a part of each scene. I would really recommend this one; I think it is the best show we have seen in a while.

Superior Doughnuts is playing from April 1st 2011 to May 7th 2011 tickets start at only $10 (and are well worth it!) you can get your tickets by clicking here

Build A Great Blog

{Are You a New Blogger?}

This is a sticky post and will remain at the top of my blog for a while.

I have been meaning to post about a great blogging class that I found. When I was thinking about starting my blog a few months ago I stumbled upon a post by another blogger who was raving a class by Blogelina, I researched it and found only good things so I decided to join. The class is only $5! I figured even if it was awful it was only five bucks, so no real loss. Luckily I ended up loving the class! I have met so many great bloggers and friends from the weekly online class and that in itself has been worth it.

The class includes so much free stuff that you are actually making money by attending and that isn’t just something I am saying. You get:

  • The class manual- this thing has been so helpful, it answers most of the questions that I had starting out (and even now!) Full of hints about starting your blog, questions to ask yourself, how to choose your blog host, design ideas, how to gain visitors and more.
  • 4 online classes with other bloggers- It is really nice to have a place to ask all of your questions and meet new friends. If you are wondering if something you are doing is good or looks good you can just ask and get honest feedback right then.
  • The best part? This is where you are “making” money; you get a whole year of web hosting with Godaddy.com for FREE! That is an $84 value… technically you just made $79 bucks!

If you join now you can enter to win an Apple iPad too! Just click here for details, I promise, I don’t endorse products that I don’t believe in; I believe in this class!

Hop- Review

{HOP- Review}

{About}
 Hop is a movie where a computer animated bunny named E.B (Russell Brand) flees from his home to avoid taking over the family business, he heads straight to Hollywood! This movie is not funny animated and E.B ends up finding Fred (James Marsden) and manipulates him into letting him stay with him, which Fred soon regrets!

{My Opinion}
This move was hilarious! I absolutely loved it, I thought it was adorable. It was Jason, me, Sunnie, her husband, B and C (Sunnies girls 8 and 6), Moose (boy 4), Tater (boy 6) and Louie (girl 7); all of us loved it; everyone thought it was really good. I would recommend this movie, it didn’t have any jokes that would make me wonder if the kids were going to understand them, and it was very clean overall. I would recommend Hop for ages 4 and up because it is not a cartoon so it may not keep their attention as well. Go see it and let me know what you thought! They have a really fun interactive website too www.iwantcandy.com

Disney On Ice Princess Classics- Denver

{Disney on Ice Princess Classics- Denver}

Tonight I had the pleasure of attending Disney on Ice Princess Classics in Denver at the Denver Coliseum with Jason, Moose, Tater and Louie. I have to say that this morning Moose and Tater decided that they might not want to go because “it’s about princesses” and “it’s for girls” so I told them that it was for boys too and that they were going. Tater was in charge of pictures and he had a disposable camera, I will develop and add them later today.

We got to the Coliseum and found our seats, got settled in and waited. The show started right at 7pm which was nice, I hate when shows start late and I am trying to keep the kids busy!

Once the boys saw Mickey and Minnie Mouse they were into it. It was funny because the boys haven’t seen many of the Disney Princess movies (bad mommy, I know! I am going to get all of them now!) So Tater was entranced the whole time and couldn’t stop asking questions “who’s that?” “Is that a bad guy or a good guy?” “What movie is this from?” I kept saying “Just watch son, you will see” it was a riot.

In the end the boys actually loved the show and so did Louie, they all thanked us over and over for bringing them. They said they loved it! Tater said that it was cool because there were lots of boys (princes) in it. I thought it was a great show and I loved seeing the beautiful princess dresses. I also love hearing the songs from the movies that I grew up with, I am that lady who can’t help but sing along… out loud… in public.

I would definitely recommend this show and be sure to let your little ones dress up as princesses and princes, they will be in good company and they love leaving the house in dress up clothes! Besides, they look so cute all dressed up!

Ruined- Denver

{Ruined Denver- Review}
Tonight Jason and I attended the opening night performance of Ruined at the Ricketson Theater in Denver. If you read my blog then you know that I love seeing shows at any of the Denver Center theaters, they are always fabulous! The Ricketson Theater is one of the cozier venues and it was perfect because no matter where you sit you are close enough to the stage to feel, see and hear everything.

{About the Show}
In this Pulitzer Prize winning play you see the war in Africa through the windows of a bar/brothel. You see the pain of the women in the Democratic Republic of Congo amidst the bloody civil war going on around them. The show is based on Mama Nadi, the owner of the bar/brothel and two of the girls who work for her. She provides refuge, food and a good time for men on both sides of the battle and all they have to do is leave their bullets at the bar.

{My Opinion}
This show was very good, I had a great time and I was drawn in and focused on each moment of the show. Learning the stories of the characters pasts and following them in their present. The story was full of drama but also had plenty of comedy to lighten the mood when things were getting a little heavy.

The actors were very good and you could feel the true emotion of the story through their portrayal. When they hurt, you could feel it. I am sure you have heard many times “it will make you laugh, it will make you cry” and this time it is true; I did both and so did the people around me.

If you love a good, genuine drama that is heartfelt and full of true emotion this is the show for you. I would recommend this show, I think it was great and I would see it again.

PAUL- Review

{PAUL- Review}
Rated R

{About}
This movie is about two comic book loving friends, Graeme and Clive on a cross country road trip, touring all of America’s UFO hot spots. On their trip they stumble upon a crazy alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogan). Paul is just an alien who dreams of going back to his home planet and he is trying to find a way to get there without the government capturing him. He needs help and finds it in this pair. They become fugitives of the law and kidnappers; they find themselves running from an FBI agent (Jason Bateman) and he is closing in quickly.

{My Opinion}
I have never been in a theater where so many people were laughing out loud! I was worried that most of the good parts of this movie may have been in the previews but that wasn’t true at all! Paul is a funny, over sexualized but sweet little alien; easy to love and laugh at. This was a really funny movie in total but was also a little tiny bit touching. I think that if you enjoy Seth Rogen’s other movies (Pineapple Express, Superbad, Knocked Up, Zac and Miri Make a Porno) you would enjoy this one! It is by the same guy who did Superbad, which I loved!

This is not a movie for kids, the movie is rated R and there are plenty of reasons for that. It may look like a kids movie because of the computer animation but it isn't.

Traces Denver- Review

{Traces- Denver}
Tonight Jason and I were invited to the opening night performance of a show called Traces at The Denver Center for the Performing Arts. We have attended several shows there so we knew to expect only the best from the Denver Center; we have never seen a bad show at any of their theaters. I had seen the previews for Traces on TV and it looked great!

{About the Show} - From the Denver Center Website
The 7 Fingers is an astonishingly talented French Canadian company that has pioneered a whole new brand of theatrical entertainment. On what may prove their last night on earth, seven street youths celebrate life with dazzling, gravity-defying displays of skill- balancing on each other’s heads, tumbling through hoops and leaping spectacularly up giant poles. More than just a display of acrobatic brilliance the audience is gradually drawn into the performers’ real life stories and, by the dramatic climax of the show, on the edge of their seats, willing them to pull of the seemingly impossible.

{My Opinion}

Most of the time that we were watching this show my mouth was hanging open, I found myself in awe of everything that was happening on stage. The acrobatics in this show were amazing; I have never seen anything like it. There were several different “skits” and all of them were vastly unique; it wasn’t the same moves over and over. They climb poles (with no hands!), jump through hoops, hurl through the air, throw and catch each other and so much more; keeping you on the edge of your seat!

They found a way to introduce you to the real life stories of the performers; 6 charming young men and 1 adorable young lady. Their stories made them lovable, by the end I found myself worrying about their safety and if they would be able to successfully complete certain maneuvers, I felt attached to them somehow! They did a great job of interacting with the audience which also created a feeling of closeness.

I would recommend seeing this show, you will be pleased. We were talking on the walk to the car and we couldn’t even decide which part of the show was our favorite because all of it was so great!

The one thing I would say would help to know going in to watch the show; there is no real story line, there is no beginning, middle and end. I was trying to figure out how everything connected but in the end I see that there was no real connection and it was still fabulous!

Traces is showing at the Stage Theatre from March 11th-May 14th, 2011. You can click here to buy tickets- http://www.denvercenter.org/shows-and-events/shows/traces/home.aspx

Hall Pass- Review

{Hall Pass}

Rated R

This movie looked hilarious on the previews and it has created quite the buzz because of the whole idea of giving your spouse a week “off” of marriage. I heard a lady on the radio the other day that was talking about how just watching the commercial got her and her hubby talking and the decided to do the “pass” thing, interesting that a movie can spark a conversation like that!

Starring Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate; this is a movie about two couples who each decide that a “pass” is a great idea, something that would reassure them about where their relationship stands. The funniest parts of the movie are the result of middle aged men trying to behave like teenagers and figuring out that they are not young anymore.

I thought this movie was really funny, it has some great moments. The story line was pretty good and it didn’t go exactly the way that I thought it would so that was nice, I love when a movie offers a little bit of surprise and it doesn’t happen very often! I would recommend this movie if you like movies like The Hangover, I think you would probably enjoy this movie!

Beastly- Review

{Beastly}
Rated PG-13

Jason and I went to check out this movie tonight, going in I thought that it would be a little scary and that it would be ok but not great. I was pleasantly surprised!

We both thought this movie was really good! There was a great story line that was easy and fun to follow. It wasn’t scary at all and in fact there were some really young kids there and I think it was fine for them to watch, other than how “scary” his face was.

This movie is a love story, as you can see in the trailer. Kyle, played by Alex Pettyfer is a nasty, mean, cool kid who needs a lesson in how to treat people. He gets himself into some trouble and ends up with a spell being cast on him that he will be “beastly” until someone tells him that they love him. Vanessa Hudgens plays “Lindy” his best chance for love.

My favorite character was played by Neil Patrick Harris, he played a blind tutor and he was great! I looked forward to his scenes and laughed through many of them!

I would say that this was a very good movie, I really enjoyed it! Jason did too! We noticed that most of the people around us were talking about how good the movie was too. I would say if you like Twilight and movies similar to that grab some tickets and go see this one!

On a side note- this advanced screening was put on by a company called 43KIX, they offer many movie screenings in Denver and other cities. You can find them by clicking here. You can sign up and you will get offers sent straight to your phone, e-mail, via Twitter and Facebook too!

Rango- Review

{Rango}
Rated PG

We went to a sneak peek of this movie on Tuesday night, it was; Jason, me, Sunnie, Woody (Sunnie’s husband), Moose, Tater, Louie and Sunnie’s two little ladies “B” and “C”.

The kids were all so excited to see this movie, they thought the commercials looked hilarious and the whole way to the theater they talked about how it was going to be “the funniest movie ever.”

I am going to say right off the bat that this movie was not good in my opinion and it certainly wasn’t good for kids. I guess I didn’t realize that it was rated “PG” and I assumed it was “G” rated because it is a cartoon, big mistake.

There were so many inappropriate things for little ones in this movie. They said “hell” more than 10 times, they said “damn”, huevos (balls) twice, enlarged prostate (not something I want to be explaining), tramp, floozy. There was a point where a character ended up under the dress of another character and came out saying something about “that wasn’t entirely unpleasant.” There was plenty of talk about killing and hanging other characters.

All-in-all I am not one of those overly conscious mothers, my kids probably hear words that they shouldn’t but I draw the line at them hearing words that I don’t want them repeating in a cartoon! I think that a PG rating is right for this movie; it really is just a general western film turned cartoon. I would recommend this film for the 10 and up crowd but honestly, I wouldn’t bother paying to see it, on top of everything else; it didn’t have a good story line at all.

Boys Should Be Boys: 7 Secrets to Raising Healthy Sons- Review

{Boys Should Be Boys: 7 Secrets to Raising Healthy Sons- Review}

Let me start off by saying that I am not a fan of self-help or parenting books, I find them generally boring and I usually lose interest pretty fast.  However, this book was different!

The author Meg (Margaret) Meeker M.D. has a definite way with words and finds a way to draw readers in from the first page to the last. She has spent more than 20 years in pediatric and adolescent medicine. She has written six bestselling books. She is also a public speaker on child and teen issues and is often in the spotlight on television and radio shows.

This book called out to me from the shelves; like I said before these kinds of books are not really my “thing” but I read the back cover and thought I would give it a shot. I am so glad that I did, this is one of the best books that I have ever read, and especially when it comes to learning about raising boys and with two of them I can use all the help I can get!

{Product Description- by Amazon.com}
In Boys Should Be Boys, one of our most trusted authorities helps parents restore the delights of boyhood and enable today’s boys to become the mature, confident, and thoughtful men of tomorrow. Boys will always be boys–rambunctious, adventurous, and curious, climbing trees, building forts, playing tackle football, and pushing their growing bodies to the limit as part of the rite of passage into manhood. But today our sons face an increasingly hostile world that doesn’t value the high-spirited, magical nature of boys. In a collective call to let our boys be boys, Dr. Meg Meeker explores the secrets to boyhood, including

• why rules and boundaries are crucial–and why boys feel lost without them
• how the outdoors is still the best playground, offering the sense of adventure that only Mother Nature can provide
• the essential ways to preserve a boy’s innocence (and help him grow up)
• the pitfalls moms and dads face when talking to their sons
• why moody and rebellious boys are not normal–and how to address such behavior
• how and when the “big” questions in life should be discussed: why he is here, what his purpose is, and why he is important

Parents are blessed with intuition and heart, but raising sons is a daunting responsibility. This uplifting guide makes the job a little easier.

 {My Opinion}
I would recommend this book to anyone who has a son, it was so helpful for me that I even asked Jason to read it; he did and he really thought it was great too. It really helped me to realize that my boys are just that; boys! The stuff that they do is normal but more than that, without that stuff they can't grow into the men that I hope they will be someday and that was a great revelation to me!

She has a book about raising girls called Strong Fathers, Strong daughters just in case you don’t have a son but you think a book like this could be helpful for you.
Meg Meeker has also written several mommy help books that I intend to check out, I will be sure to update you about what I think of them.

Have you read this book? Did you enjoy it? Do you have a favorite parenting book?

Gnomeo and Juliet- Review

{Gnomeo and Juliet}
Rated G

We went to see this movie in a sneak preview on Monday night. There were 8 of us; Jason, me, Sunnie (my friend), Moose, Tater, Louie and Sunnie’s girls’ B and C.

I have wanted to see this movie since the first time we saw the preview, which had me dying laughing.

In case you don’t know yet, this movie is a modern day Romeo and Juliet (obvious from the name, lol) and it is about some lawn gnomes. The gnomes are divided into two yards, the blue yard and the red yard. Of course the red gnomes and blue gnomes don’t get along. So it is a story of forbidden love, ahhh so sweet!

This was a fantastic movie, we all really enjoyed it! The 7 year old girls were laughing the whole time and really loved the whole movie. The other kids’ found it very amusing too and said that they really liked it. They were repeating lines from it in the car on the way home and laughing about it.

As parents’ the three of us thought it was a great movie. I thought it was comparable to Shrek as far as humor; there were a few “hidden” adult jokes which I really like. The story line was fun and the characters were super lovable.

This guy's name is Featherstone, he is adorable and definitely my favorite character!

Overall this movie was very good and I think it was worth watching, the kids loved it and we will probably buy it when it comes to DVD.

Go check it out it is in theaters today! They have a great website too! You can build your own Gnome find some downloads, games, videos and other fun stuff www.gnomeoandjuliet.com

Review for Calphalon Contemporary 11 Piece Cookware

{Product Review- Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 11-pc. Cookware Set}

We received this set a couple of days ago and we are in awe of the cookware! It is an 11 piece set which includes; 10 inch omelette pan (I would describe it as a frying pan), 12 inch covered omelette pan, 1.5 quart covered sauce pan, 2.5 quart covered sauce pan and an 8 quart covered stockpot.

{Features of this set}
This cookware is made of a virtually pure, heavy-gauge aluminum for even heating. The bottom features rounded edges which makes it easy to get your utensils in and stir without missing anything in those pesky corners.  This cookware also features 3 layers of nonstick coating meaning you have to use little to no oil for your cooking, which is great for low-fat preparation. You can use Nylon coated or wooden utensils with no issue; you should not use metal though, as is true with any nonstick cookware. The exterior is hard anodized and will not chip or crack.

The lids are made of tempered glass, so you can see what you are cooking and they are also a dome shape so that any moisture that builds up will return back to the food.

Everything in the set is oven safe to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, which is useful too!

{What do I think?}
When we received the set we immediately opened up the box and started pulling everything out.

We were ooh-ing and ahh-ing over them and were instantly in love with the way they look. They are a very dark gun metal type gray, which is lovely. The lids are glass so that you can see what you are cooking, I love that! The lid is framed with a chrome colored metal and the handle is that color too, the contrast against the dark gray is wonderful. They are quite heavy and definitely sturdy feeling. The pan and pot handles are also “stay cool” which means you do not have to have a pot holder to handle them while on the stove, just in the oven.
I have cooked a few times in these pans already and it is like a dream! They heat really evenly and very quickly. With my old set I had to turn the heat to high to get my water to boil and with these I can use a medium high heat.  I cannot imagine anything being able to stick to the bottom of the pan, even if it wanted to!

I would recommend this set to anyone who is looking for really high quality, long lasting cookware. I can see that this high quality set will last for years and years if it is taken care of. The do cost slightly more than some of the sets that you can find but I really believe that if you have the money to spend now, it is worth it and will save you more money in the long run.

It has only been a week but the only thing that I have found to be a negative so far is that the lid handles are not “stay cool” and I have to use a hot pad to remove them.
