Hall Pass- Review

{Hall Pass}

Rated R

This movie looked hilarious on the previews and it has created quite the buzz because of the whole idea of giving your spouse a week “off” of marriage. I heard a lady on the radio the other day that was talking about how just watching the commercial got her and her hubby talking and the decided to do the “pass” thing, interesting that a movie can spark a conversation like that!

Starring Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate; this is a movie about two couples who each decide that a “pass” is a great idea, something that would reassure them about where their relationship stands. The funniest parts of the movie are the result of middle aged men trying to behave like teenagers and figuring out that they are not young anymore.

I thought this movie was really funny, it has some great moments. The story line was pretty good and it didn’t go exactly the way that I thought it would so that was nice, I love when a movie offers a little bit of surprise and it doesn’t happen very often! I would recommend this movie if you like movies like The Hangover, I think you would probably enjoy this movie!

Beastly- Review

{Beastly}
Rated PG-13

Jason and I went to check out this movie tonight, going in I thought that it would be a little scary and that it would be ok but not great. I was pleasantly surprised!

We both thought this movie was really good! There was a great story line that was easy and fun to follow. It wasn’t scary at all and in fact there were some really young kids there and I think it was fine for them to watch, other than how “scary” his face was.

This movie is a love story, as you can see in the trailer. Kyle, played by Alex Pettyfer is a nasty, mean, cool kid who needs a lesson in how to treat people. He gets himself into some trouble and ends up with a spell being cast on him that he will be “beastly” until someone tells him that they love him. Vanessa Hudgens plays “Lindy” his best chance for love.

My favorite character was played by Neil Patrick Harris, he played a blind tutor and he was great! I looked forward to his scenes and laughed through many of them!

I would say that this was a very good movie, I really enjoyed it! Jason did too! We noticed that most of the people around us were talking about how good the movie was too. I would say if you like Twilight and movies similar to that grab some tickets and go see this one!

On a side note- this advanced screening was put on by a company called 43KIX, they offer many movie screenings in Denver and other cities. You can find them by clicking here. You can sign up and you will get offers sent straight to your phone, e-mail, via Twitter and Facebook too!

Rango- Review

{Rango}
Rated PG

We went to a sneak peek of this movie on Tuesday night, it was; Jason, me, Sunnie, Woody (Sunnie’s husband), Moose, Tater, Louie and Sunnie’s two little ladies “B” and “C”.

The kids were all so excited to see this movie, they thought the commercials looked hilarious and the whole way to the theater they talked about how it was going to be “the funniest movie ever.”

I am going to say right off the bat that this movie was not good in my opinion and it certainly wasn’t good for kids. I guess I didn’t realize that it was rated “PG” and I assumed it was “G” rated because it is a cartoon, big mistake.

There were so many inappropriate things for little ones in this movie. They said “hell” more than 10 times, they said “damn”, huevos (balls) twice, enlarged prostate (not something I want to be explaining), tramp, floozy. There was a point where a character ended up under the dress of another character and came out saying something about “that wasn’t entirely unpleasant.” There was plenty of talk about killing and hanging other characters.

All-in-all I am not one of those overly conscious mothers, my kids probably hear words that they shouldn’t but I draw the line at them hearing words that I don’t want them repeating in a cartoon! I think that a PG rating is right for this movie; it really is just a general western film turned cartoon. I would recommend this film for the 10 and up crowd but honestly, I wouldn’t bother paying to see it, on top of everything else; it didn’t have a good story line at all.

30 Day Picture Challenge- Day 6

{Day 6- 30 Day Picture Challenge}

Today I am supposed to pick a person that I would change places with for a day.
I would choose the Trump! It would have to be on his day off because that guy works too hard. I would spend the day shopping and then go to the bank and make a huge withdraw and deposit it right into my own bank account!

I know it seems so petty when I could change with anyone in the world to choose someone because they have money but really I wouldn't want any real authority!

My second choice would be to change places with Ryan Reynolds girlfriend…

How to Make Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes

{Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes}

These are so easy to make but always get a ton of compliments for creativity. They don’t take any longer than regular cupcakes to prepare but people look at them and assume that they were really difficult.

{You Will Need}
Prepared cake batter (box mix or homemade)
24 Ice cream cones with a flat bottom so that you can stand them up in the oven
Frosting
Decorations

{Directions}
  • Preheat the oven according to cake batter directions
  • Spoon your batter into the cones; I filled them up to the rim inside, just about ½ an inch from the top
  • Stand the filled cones up in a cake pan (or on top of any cookie sheet)
  • Bake the cupcakes until they are done and they spring back when you push gently on the top of them. I know this isn’t a really helpful direction but it is hard to tell how long they will take. I cooked mine for 22 minutes and they were perfect.

  • Allow them to cool and then using a piping bag frost them to look like ice cream

  • Add sprinkles or other ice cream style toppings!

  • These are lovely and taste amazing, I love having the crunchy factor with my cake, yum. Something to note though, they do go stale quickly and should be eaten the same day that they are baked, so bake them the day of your party or be prepared to share them with friends!
I used my churros cupcake recipe in these and you can find that here and they are frosted with cinnamon frosting, yummy! You can find the recipe for the frosting here

The Bachelor (February 28th 2011)

{The Bachelor (February 28th 2011) Spoiler}

So they are in South Africa this week! Fantasy suite week has arrived!

{Dates}
Chantal was the first one to get a date this week. They went on a safari, can you say amazing date? I think that is way better than a helicopter ride! Next was a picnic (while being guarded from the animals by some guy with a gun). They had a little dinner, nothing fancy and then of course he invited her to the fantasy suite for the night. The fantasy suite turned out to be a tree house in the middle of nothing. It was a gorgeous setting!

 __________
Next was Emily! They went on an elephant ride! It was so adorable; she said her dream was always to ride and elephant in Africa. He told her how much he liked Ricki and they talked about how he is ready to have kids, even a 5 year old. He told her that he knows she is a package deal and he loves that about her, aww, melt my heart!

Next came dinner and he gave her the fantasy suite card, she said that she wants to set a good example for her daughter but also wants to spend more time with him (meaning she doesn’t want to have any sexy time, good for her!). In the suite she finally told him that she is falling in love with him and it took him by complete surprise. He told her that he is falling in love with her too! He said that he can’t hear her say that and not tell her that he feels the same.

*Can I just say that the other girls have told him they are falling for him and he didn’t say a word back to them. Sparks are flying people!

 __________
Ashley was the last girl to get a date this week, he was taking her up in a helicopter, the second she saw it she ran away from him and then started to tear up from fear. They went for a picnic and had an intense conversation about her future and her career, Brad mentioned that he and Ashley had never once meshed their lives together in a conversation.

Things got really complicated at dinner, he was telling her how confused he is about some of the things they have talked about and he again mentioned how they are constantly reassuring themselves instead of moving forward. She told him that it seems like they have sparks and chemistry but all he is looking for is a wife. She told him that he should do what’s best for him and not worry about her. He gave her the fantasy suite card and she said yes. You could see how awkward everything was, I think she closed herself off to him because of their dinner talk.

 __________
Brad said in a private interview that he knows what he should do but he isn’t sure that he can, he needs to talk to Ashley before he can make a decision. He pulled her aside at the rose ceremony and told her he is sorry for backing her into a corner with questions, she said she wants him to ask her these things… then why did she shut down when he asked? He told her that he has to say goodbye to her; that he doesn’t want to make her stand through the rose ceremony and she stood up and said “ok” and then told him that she wasn’t going to beg him to change his mind. You could see how guarded she was and I think that had been the problem the whole time really, she was just waiting to get hurt.

{The girl Who Went Home Was}

Ashley

Next time they get to meet Brad’s family, in Cape Town South Africa! But the next show is going to be the “Behind the Rose” ceremony and maybe this year it will be a good one, this show drives me nuts because it just keeps me from seeing who he proposes to.

Creamy Tomato Sauce (Pink Sauce) Recipe

{Meatless Monday- Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce}
I am in love with “pink” sauce; it is such a great way to make a creamy tomato sauce for your pasta. This makes enough sauce to cover a pound of noodles, you can use any shape noodle you choose (I would recommend Ziti or bowtie).

{Ingredients}
1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil
4-5 cloves of garlic (depending on how garlicky you like it!)
2 (14.5 oz) can of Italian style diced tomatoes
2 Tablespoon of Italian seasoning
1 Teaspoon of Oregano
1 Teaspoon of salt
Pinch of white sugar
1 Cup of heavy cream
2 Tablespoon of butter

{Directions}
  • In a deep sauce pan sauté garlic in olive oil over medium heat

  • In a blender combine tomatoes, Italian seasoning, oregano, salt and sugar. Blend for just a few pulses, until the sauce is the texture that you like (I like mine without any chunks of tomato)

  • Add the tomato mixture into the oil and garlic and simmer for 5-10 minutes over medium-low heat

  • Whisk in the heavy cream and butter

  • Heat for about 10 minutes or until the milk is warm, do not allow it to boil

  • Season with salt and pepper to taste, serve over noodles and top with Parmesan cheese
(We are out of Parmesan, what a bummer!)
